What is WIP Run & WIP Aging Charts?
WIP Run & WIP Aging Charts is a Jira dashboard app that helps teams monitor work in progress from two complementary perspectives: how long current work items have remained in progress and how the overall amount of WIP changes over time.
It helps teams identify aging work, bottlenecks, accumulating queues, WIP limit breaches, workflow instability and potential capacity problems.
Which gadgets are included in the app?
The app includes two configurable Jira dashboard gadgets:

What is the difference between the WIP Aging Chart and the WIP Run Chart?
The WIP Aging Chart provides a snapshot of the work that is currently in progress. It shows where each work item is located in the workflow and how long it has remained there.
The WIP Run Chart provides a historical view of WIP. It shows how the total amount of work in progress has changed over a selected period.
Use WIP Aging to identify the individual work items that need attention. Use WIP Run to determine whether your overall WIP level is stable, increasing or decreasing.

The app is useful for Scrum and Kanban teams, Scrum Masters, Agile Coaches, Product Owners, Project Managers, Delivery Managers, Engineering Leads, DevOps teams, ITSM and support teams, RTEs and PMOs.

Do I need Jira administrator permissions to use the gadgets?
A Jira administrator is generally required to install the app. After installation, users with permission to create or edit Jira dashboards can add and configure the gadgets.
Users must also have permission to view the Jira work items, projects, boards and filters used by the gadgets.
How does the app determine what counts as WIP?
The gadgets let you define how a work item is considered work in progress. Configure the WIP boundaries according to the workflow statuses or board columns used by your team.
Do I need to know JQL?
No. You can configure the gadgets using a Jira board, saved filter, epics or portfolio-level work items.
JQL is available as an additional option when you need more precise control over the work items included in the calculation.
Which data sources can I use?
Depending on the gadget, you can use:

Can I track work across multiple projects or teams?
Yes. Create a saved filter or JQL query that returns work items from the required projects or teams and use it as the gadget’s data source.
You can also use epics or portfolio-level work items to analyze WIP across a broader delivery initiative.
Can I include sub-tasks?
Yes. When using a board, saved filter or JQL query, enable Include sub-tasks if you want sub-tasks to be included in the calculation.
Can I split WIP by a Jira field?
Yes. Enable Split WIP by and select a Jira field to display a separate chart series for each field value.
Are these gadgets also available in Great Gadgets?
